‘Eclipse’ is the first in a new collection of lighting sculpture by Jon Thomas. This piece was born from Jon’s fascination with repeating lines & transparancy. The contemporary sculpture features 6 edge lit blue Perspex® disks, held in position by solid brass. The sculpture is lit using state of the art low voltage LED’s cleverly hidden out of sight. Our state of the art low energy LED’s consume less than 10 Watts in total! Acrylic is laser cut and the brass is all hand finished in our workshop in Wales.
In natural sunlight the fluorescent blue acrylic has a beautiful transparent depth to it. When lit the blue acrylic almost disappears revealing its dark centre. This is where the light reveals its true identity.
Jon continues to experiment with translucency & plans to create several more sculptures based on this technique for 2017. Much research & experimentation was undertaken to produce this design (see our Instagram page for photos). The sculpture can be suspended from the ceiling or displayed on a level surface (see photos). It’s symmetrical design ensures the light will remain perfectly balanced.
Each of the blue Perspex® disks is lit independently from the next and each can be removed & disconnected by hand. A 240v – 12v plug in converter or driver (for the ceiling) is available for purchase & can be supplied to power the sculpture. The light is available in 5 florescent Perspex® colours and clear.
